5 Things to Do Other than Shop on Black Friday

Hi Lovlies!

I know I can’t be the only person who get overwhelmed with the amount of chaos that takes place on Black Friday. While I appreciate a good sale as much as the next person, I’ve found myself to be less and less attracted to shopping during Black Friday and even Cyber Monday. In taking the time to reflect on conspicuous consumption in Western Culture and the impacts this has on the environment, I’ve decided to slowly move towards not shopping at all.

Since there’s 7 billion people in the world, and I can’t be the only one who feels this way- I decided to create a cute lil’ list of things to do other than shop on Black Friday. There’s a small feel good message at the end of the post too <3.

1.     Do a DIY Craft.

If you enjoy getting your creative juices flowing, here’s a great way to destress and get into it. Instead of shopping for Christmas gifts during Black Friday, consider making something filled with all your love for family and friends. Guaranteed they’ll love it- and it’s fund-friendly! Check out I Spy DIY for inspo!

2.     Treat Yourself.

The holiday season is often a busy one for lots of folks. Instead of going out and putting more stress and weight on your shoulders- treat yourself! Even though a little retail therapy can be a treat- we’re doing things other than shopping today- if we can help it. Instead of hitting up the mall, you could:

- treat yourself to a yoga class (or at-home yoga)

-  take a bubble bath

- read your favourite book

- cook or bake your favourite meal or treat

- bundle up in your favourite sweats and chhhhhhiilll

- binge-watch Christmas movies on Netflix (….with wine)

And the list goes on and on….

3.     Work on Your 2020 Goals

Now is the perfect time to start thinking about the seeds you can plant for next year. Goal-setting can be overwhelming when you try to fit it into the last few days before the new year. But that doesn’t give you much time to plan, does it? You can get a head start on your vision board and really give it the time it deserves. We’re doing big TINGS in 2020! Plan them out.

Need an agenda to bring your dreams to a reality? I just got my second Hustler’s Agenda for 2020.+

4.     Clean Out Your Closet & Donate Gently Used Items

For those of you looking to downsize your closet instead of expanding it this Black Friday, go on a closet raid and donate the gently used pieces that you don’t wear anymore. Not only are you saving- but you’re helping out someone in need. And- ‘tis the season, isn’t it? It’s always the season to help those in need!

5.     Still want to Shop? Shop Small Businesses!

Okay, okay. I get it. We can’t all avoid shopping on Black Friday. I hear you! BUT- instead of heading to your mall and spending your coins there, I’ve made a list of some of my favourite small-businesses that you can support. Check them out below!

Broke & Living

I hope that posing these as options other than shopping on Black Friday makes you reflect a bit on your spending habits. Personally, I’m trying to contribute less and less to consumerism culture. Believe me- I have consumed more than enough. In this journey towards a more minimalist lifestyle- remember that starting slow is still a start. It still helps our environment and our society. You don’t have to cut out shopping entirely- just try to be more mindful of what you’re consuming and why! <3

Happy Black Friday loves!
